J. Caniglia "Craig O.
Thompson's Omar is a suspenseful
and thrilling novel of escalating global
terrorism....Omar is a shocking,
action-packed, highly recommended
page-turner filled with suspense and plot
twists to the end." Midwest
Book Review Author,
speaker, educator, anti-terrorism expert
and counter-terrorism consultant, Craig O.
Thompson, has led an exciting, eclectic
life. He was born in Los Angeles,
California, where he spent most of his
formative years. Some college and a
life-changing experience in Sri Lanka--as
the first 18 year-old to serve overseas in
the U.S. Peace Corps--was all it took for
him to decide that an ordinary life would
not do. In his early
years, Craig was honored with a special
invitation to Washington, D.C.--by Vice
President Hubert H. Humphrey--where he was
able to speak before the very first
gathering of returned Peace Corps
volunteers. Several years later, he
received a letter of commendation from the
Carnegie Hero Foundation for "courage in
the rescue of accident victims," after
helping to pull a family from a burning
car just before it
exploded. A graduate of
Northern Arizona University, Craig O.
Thompson holds a B.S. and M.A. in
Education from the College of Education at
N.A.U. For over nearly
15 years, Craig O. Thompson has researched
and studied "NBCRW" (Nuclear, Biological,
Chemical, and Radiological Warfare) and
the potential effects of terrorism on
democratic soils. Says Thompson, "I just
set out to write an action-adventure
novel. What I discovered at once alarmed
and startled me. And what I discovered
made me think twice about protecting our
loved-ones and the security of our
nation." Thompson is
communications director for the
International Association for
Counterterrorism and Security
Professionals (www.IACSP.com),
a member of the Institute for Business
& Home Safety, the International
Association of Contingency Planners, and
is affiliated with the Nuclear Threat
Initiative (NTI), Project Vote Smart, and
supports programs associated with Business
Executives for National Security (BENS).
As an anti-terrorism expert, professional
speaker, educator, and author, Craig O.
Thompson is a member of Washington
Independent Writers, and numerous
organizations affiliated with the book
publishing industry. A captivating
platform speaker and educator, Craig
offers his insights at national
conventions, seminars and workshops. His
subjects range from terrorism/NBCRW,
disaster preparedness and business
continuity planning, to how to protect our
families and citizens. Thompson also
speaks on the subject of writing novels,
and provides advice for the budding or
would-be writers in all of us. He is
available for keynote speeches, workshops,
lectures, book signings and
readings. Thompson
was "on-call" during and after "The Attack
On America"incidents--as a terrorism
expert for WMAL-ABC Radio, Washington,
D.C., and continued as a guest on hundreds
of other stations from New Zealand to
British Columbia and Toronto, and from
Alaska to Orlando. During
the disasters in New York and D.C.,
Thompson spent hundreds of hours in direct
radio and television interviews,
discussing the subject of the
attacks...and where America must go from
here. To date, Terrorism expert, Craig O.
Thompson, has been interviewed worldwide
by countless Radio/TV stations and print
media. As
a regular featured expert correspondent
with WMAL-ABC Radio in Washington, DC, has
also guested on the Joan Rivers Show, The
Art Bell Show (twice in one week; four
times in one year), eleven hours on the
Lee Kline Show (KFI, Los Angeles), and
numerous stations worldwide--from New
Zealand to Venezuela, Vancouver to Toronto
and most states in between. On
September 10, 2001, one day before the
Attack on America, Mr. Thompson
predicted-- on KFI, Los Angeles--our
country would experience a major attack in
the future, pointing out that the
direction of the attack would come from
Osama bin Laden, the al Qaeda, and suicide
bombers. Though he, and other experts, had
hoped for an eight to ten year window, he
stated, "It could happen tomorrow or ten
years from now...either way we will not be
prepared." In his early
days, he worked for Lucille Ball as
Desilu-Paramount Television
post-production office manager--during the
days of the original Star Trek,
Mission: Impossible, Mannix, and
The Lucy Show. Craig was also the
producer-artistic director for the Lucille
Ball Studio Theater on the Desilu
lot. Mr. Thompson
left the studio to complete his education
and teach on the Navajo Reservation. This
was followed with over twenty-five years
work in marketing and arts management.
While an instructor on the Navajo
Reservation, he co-directed the
Navajo-Hawaii Cultural Exchange--an
educational program, created with his
friend Ed McGrath. The educational
exchange program was honored in Congress
and recognized twice in the "U.S.
Congressional Record." Thompson has
been writing for over twenty-five years.
He first started with poetry and lyrical
pieces--encouraged by the late Poet
Laureate and Pulitzer prize-winning Poet,
Gwendolyn Brooks, and by renowned
composer-pianist, Roger Williams. Further
encouragement came from comedienne,
Lucille Ball. Years of
writing copy for regional and national
advertising, marketing and public
relations campaigns--for public and
private-sector businesses--rounded out an
ability to research and express his ideas.
As a member of the National Speaker's
Association and International Platform
Association, Mr. Thompson was published in
an anthology titled "Star Spangled
Speakers." Following on the heals of these
experiences, he moved on to larger
literary pursuits. His debut
novel, "Omar" (an historical
suspense-thriller on global terrorism) is
actually his second book. The first, a
science-fiction fantasy thriller, was put
on hold when the idea developed for his
suspense/thriller, "Omar." Now, Thompson
is re-exploring the inner-workings of the
science fiction plot and gathering
research and other important character
development and plot requirements for at
least two more novels in treatment stage,
or at some other level of progress. He is
also working on two screenplays and a
non-fiction book called "The Terrorist
Cell Game"--due out in
2004. Thompson
divides his time between charitable work
and writing, skiing, and spending time
with his family. He is also working to
establish the St. Jude Foundation of Hope,
to be funded through a portion of revenue
from his writings and
keynote speeches. Craig
